Belgian painter, draughtsman, caricaturist, engraver, illustrator. Student atAcademy in Bruges with Fl. Van Acker in 1912-1913. He settled inBrussels after the First World War. Stayed inHeist-aan-Zee from 1938 to 1943, then in Uccle. Initially paintedfloral compositions, portraits, nudes and landscapes: clearpaintings, dominated by white, in which one can detect lateinfluences of French Impressionism. 1930 was a pivotal year pivotal in his work: inspired by the lives of fishermen, he painted their family environment, their attachment to the sea. Hisworks are darkly colored, with monumental monumental, bony figures reminiscent of Permeke. Alsoauthor of mural decorations (in the hall of Bruges stationstation). Renowned book illustrator and caricaturist (of Brugesartists).
