Dimensions without frame : 65 x 50 cm.
Dimensions with frame : 73.5 x 58.5 cm.
Louise Bonfils' life was marked by a dual career in scientific teaching and painting.
The first woman to pass the agrégation (a competitive examination for teaching positions) in physics in the 1930s, Louise Bonfils devoted herself fully to teaching, which she pursued with passion throughout her life.
She was the wife of the painter André Blondel, a member of the School of Paris, whom she married in 1943. Widowed prematurely, she remarried Louis Peyré, with whom she shared a common passion for painting.
It was after her retirement in the 1970s that Louise Bonfils devoted herself fully to painting. Settling in Sète, she developed a style influenced by Fauvism, characterized by bright and expressive colors. Her works, often inspired by landscapes of southern France, met with great local success, each exhibition resulting in the complete sale of her canvases.
