Signed lower right ; countersigned, titled "Plage" (Beach), and dated 1957 on the back.
Good overall condition ; note some minor paint loss on the right side in the area depicting the sand.

Claude Roederer studied under Paul Colin and Roger Chapelain-Midy.
Associated with the Surrealists and a close friend of Christian Bérard, he taught at the Académie Julian during the 1960s before founding his own school, the Académie d'art Roederer, located at the Place des Vosges. "Claude Roederer was a mentor; he helped his students discover the spirit within themselves."
The sculptor Paul Balme was among the instructors at the Académie d'art Roederer.
Roederer's paintings feature landscapes of Brittany, the Île d'Yeu, and Venice, while his drawings include, in addition to landscapes, portraits and allegorical scenes (such as *The Four Seasons*). As an illustrator, he created covers for the *Le Livre de poche* series during the 1960s, including the edition of Edmond Rostand's *Cyrano de Bergerac*.
