BIOGRAPHY:
François OZENDA ( 1923 1976) was a painter, sculptor, engraver, lithographer and illustrator born in 1923 in Marseille
A marginal artist, he sold his canvases and drawings in cafés and restaurants and worked at night in friends' homes or some makeshift room
Surrounded by a solid group of friends, the Chave family, who housed and exhibited him, as well as the customers and proprietor of Café La Régence, Ozenda created a protean and inspired body of work, in which he laid bare his soul
He exhibited in Saint Paul de Vence ,( where he remained until his death) : Galerie Alphonse Chave
In 1953, the gallery organized a solo show for him, "Un monde étrange de saints, de diables, de bêtes". This exhibition was followed by others ( 1955 1956 1959 1965 1966 1969 1972 1976)
Ozenda took part in the "Peinture-lumière" exhibition, organized in Vallauris by André Verdet, in 1963.
He died in 1976. After his death, retrospective exhibitions were devoted to him, in Paris, Lyon , Marseille ...
