Wrought-iron dagger with an engraved blade; the handle is made of weathered, worn wood; Ikul Kuba ethnic group, Equatorial Africa, Congo.
The Kuba are the most prolific ethnic group in Western Kasai. Kuba art developed primarily around royal figures. This prestigious culture became famous for its spectacular masks.
Date: circa 1900–1920.
Condition: As found; the blade is rusted and the handle is fractured. Very beautiful, lustrous patina.
