Gold Reduction Of The Imperial Order Of The Dragon Of Annam - Colonial Period
Galerie L'Atrium Paris and Antibes, is pleased to present a delightful reduction (miniature) of the Imperial Order of the Dragon of Annam, made in gold.
Instituted in 1886 by Emperor Đồng Khánh in the context of the French protectorate in Indochina, this order rewarded civil and military merit. This miniature-sized piece was traditionally commissioned privately by high dignitaries and officers from master jewelers, to be worn on evening and gala dress.
Despite its small size, the insignia is finely crafted, featuring a setting of two dragons facing each other in green enamel, surmounting a finely chased imperial crown. The radiating star hosts in its center a medallion in midnight blue enamel, adorned with four golden sinograms meaning "Instituted by Emperor Đồng Khánh".
The use of gold for this miniature underscores the prestige of its original recipient and lends the object a very fine quality of chasing.
Condition:
Good overall condition. The enamels (blue and green) are well preserved. Sold without its original ribbon.
Technical characteristics:
Material: Gold (Gross weight including enamel: 1.6 g)
Height (without suspension ring): 25 mm
Order: Imperial Order of the Dragon of Annam
Era: Late 19th - Early 20th century (French Indochina)
Gross weight: 1.6 g
