Japanese porcelain vase adorned with a French gilt-bronze mount. The central cartouche, reminiscent of a fan, depicts a garden scene. The main character is a woman dressed in a traditional Japanese kimono (called bijin, "beauty") accompanied by a child or servant. In the background, we see a fragment of architecture, stylized trees and mountain peaks with sharp, dark-blue outlines, partially obscured by orange clouds.
The other parts of the vase are densely covered with floral motifs. Precisely painted multi-petal chrysanthemums and peonies are symbols of prosperity and dignity. Gold has been applied with great opulence, both for the contours of the flowers and for the intricate small-leaf motifs directly on the dark cobalt-blue surfaces (kinrande technique). Asymmetrical and extremely dynamic gilded bronze base, formed of fleshy and plastic acanthus leaves, scrolls and shell motifs (rocaille)

Arita - Imari (ko-imari), Japan, Edo period, years 1690-1730. Ironwork made in France, most probably under Louis XV in the 18th century.

Height 41.5 cm, diameter 19.5 cm.

Good condition, hairline crack on bottom.
