Interesting Japanese deep ceramic plate painted with relief enamels. The scene represents a mythical Japanese character: Yama-uba of Kintarō. According to legend, the old witch took under her wing and raised a young boy abandoned in the forest, who later became the famous warrior Sakata no Kintoki.

Satsuma ceramic, hand painted.
