Pair Of Bronze Vases With Double Patina, Barbedienne Model, Late XIXᵉ Century.

Artist: Attribué A Barbedienne
Pair of bronze vases with double patina, Barbedienne model, late XIXᵉ century

Elegant pair of decorative vases in bronze with double patina and gilded bronze, made in the taste of creations by the famous house Ferdinand Barbedienne, one of the most prestigious French art founders of the XIXᵉ century.

These vases are distinguished by the striking contrast between the rich gunmetal-brown patinated bodies and the finely chased gilt bronze mounts. This sophisticated combination, highly prized during the late 19th century, highlights the exceptional quality of the craftsmanship while lending the ensemble a refined and luxurious appearance.

The generously proportioned ovoid bodies are further enhanced by a delicately engraved stylized floral motif at their center. Subtly incorporated into the dark patina, this elegant decoration adds an additional layer of refinement and demonstrates the meticulous attention devoted to every detail.

The decoration is dominated by majestic stylized dolphins forming the handles, whose slender bodies rise elegantly from the body to the neck. These finely chiseled marine figures testify to the period's taste for decorative repertoires inspired by Antiquity and the Renaissance. The moving scrolled bases, embellished with rocaille motifs and foliage, further enhance the sculptural character of the ensemble.

The harmonious proportions, the quality of the cast iron, the finesse of the chasing and the richness of the gilding evoke the most sought-after productions of the great Parisian bronziers of the second half of the XIXᵉ century.
