At the start of the First World War, the regiment left for the Western Front on August 3, 1914 with its sister regiment (the No. 11 Hussar Regiment), with which it was to remain integrated in the same brigade throughout the war. The hussars advanced as far as Meaux, and then took part in the race to the sea after the Battle of the Marne. They were then engaged at Arras, Lille and Ypres.
In November 1914, the regiment was transferred to the Eastern Front and took part in the breakthrough battle of Brzeziny on November 23 and 24, 1914. Subsequently, it carried out operations in Russian Poland, notably on the Vistula River, in Courland and near Wilna.

From mid-1916, the horses were withdrawn; until early 1918 followed positional fighting in Volhynia and the Rokitno marshes.
