Rare Flanders Bobbin Lace Flounce - Fine Linen Thread - 18th Century
Flanders lace border ruffle, made of cream linen thread (18th century). Its intricate ornamentation unfolds in the form of tightly woven laces, to which the braided mesh background is attached (this detail is visible on the reverse side of the piece). The five-hole mesh typical of Flanders lace is used here as decorative filler stitches. The foot border has a wide groove and the head border follows the movements of the decoration. This piece can complement a collection, but can also be used to restore an old garment. It shows no particular fragility or major imperfections, with the exception of a small brown spike at the mesh. The mesh is solid under tension.
