Beautiful Etruscan-style chair in molded and carved mahogany.The front legs are molded with gadroons and the back legs are saber-shaped.Etruscan style. The upside-down scrolled back is adorned with a carved grilleand a tan leather panel. Parisian work of the late18th century, Directoire period circa 1790-1800. It bearsthe stamp of Georges Jacob under the belt.
Our seat is typical of the style known as à l'Etrusque, very fashionable at the end of the 18th century and directly inspired bypieces from excavations of Greco-Roman antiquity, drawn by the painterpainter David. Fashion-forward Georges Jacob was one of the pioneerspioneers of this new style, creating the first mahogany chairsmahogany chairs for the Comte de Provence in Versailles.Versailles.
