Somno, Empire Period Bedside Table With Columns, Mahogany, Gilt Bronze Mounts, Mercury And Turquin Marble
A beautiful mahogany and mahogany veneer bedside table with a blue Turquin marble top. This is a fine example of Empire or Restoration period furniture with bronze-banded columns. It opens with a cupboard and a drawer. Parisian production from the 1810s-1820s. While bedside tables with columns were very popular, our model belongs to the high-end range: Cuban flame mahogany veneered over oak, mercury-gilt bronze mounts, luxury marble, and mounted on casters. Our bedside table is veneered on all four sides and could be used to create a pedestal to support a statue placed in the center of a living room. The varnish, in very good condition, has been cleaned and polished by our cabinetmaker, and the mercury gilding is well preserved. A beautiful piece for collectors in very good condition.
