18th-century Flemish School, (43 X 35.5 Cm) Attributed To Jan Baptiste Lambrechts
Oil on canvas.
Dimensions: 43 x 35.5 cm.
Old restorations.
Charming kitchen interior scene in the taste of the Flemish small masters of the early XVIIIᵉ century, attributed to Jan Baptist Lambrecht. The composition depicts a young maid seated in the foreground, surrounded by kitchen utensils and provisions, while two figures appear in the background in a warm, intimate atmosphere.
The work is seductive and appealing.
The work seduces with its delicate chiaroscuro, the elegance of the attitudes and the finesse of the luminous accents carried on the female face and still-life elements. The warm brown palette, typical of the late Flemish tradition influenced by David Teniers and the Antwerp genre scene painters, lends the composition a particularly lively domestic atmosphere.
Jan Baptist Lambrecht is known for his scenes of taverns, kitchens and popular interiors, treated with a narrative and picturesque sense close to Flemish genre painting of the late XVIIᵉ century. Our painting displays several stylistic features evocative of his work.
