Angelo Abrate (1900–1985) is one of the most emblematic and authentic figures in 20th-century mountain painting, capable of blending a passion for extreme mountaineering and artistic expression into a single existential experience. Born in Turin but deeply connected to the massifs of Haute-Savoie, Abrate did not limit himself to portraying the peaks from the valley, but experienced the mountains as an open-air studio, carrying his canvas and easel above three thousand meters to capture the very essence of rock and ice.
