Fireback With The Grassin Family Coat Of Arms 18th Century ( 70x80 Cm)

18th century fireback bearing the coat of arms of the de Grassin family, established in Sens, Burgundy, in the 15th century.
One of the oldest and most important families of this city, where it held the first offices and left to posterity the marks of their piety, in the establishment of the Cordeliers Convent, of which it was the main benefactor, and in the foundation of the Grassins in the University of Paris. The offices they held from the 15th century onwards, and the alliances they opportunely contracted, ensured them a very important social reputation in the Senon and Jovinian bourgeoisie.
This family produced a number of well-known military officers and magistrates.

Blazon: Gules, three garden lilies argent, two in chief and one in base.
Support: two lions contourné, count's crown.
The shield, girded with conch-loaded crosses, is set on a hotel covered with a gonfanon.

Plaque found at Bohain-en-Vermandois in the Aisne.
