Oil On Panel, Flemish Work From The 17th Century

The work clearly fits into the tradition of Baroque painting of the Dutch Golden Age (17th century) or its immediate circle, specializing in landscapes with animals and pastoral or hunting scenes ("bamboccianti" or Italianate). The workmanship is good and it is in good condition. The beautiful frame is from the 19th century. On the back of the frame is a Victorian-era (19th century) commercial paper label: J. W. EDWARDS Carver, Gilder, Picture-Frame and Looking-Glass Manufacturer 52, South Street, Exeter This indicates that the painting was framed or restored in Exeter, United Kingdom, in the 19th century, a very common route for Dutch antique paintings, which were purchased in large numbers by British collectors during their Grand Tours or through the London market. It measures 54cm by 47cm with the frame and the board alone is 36cm by 27cm
