Metal statuette with ochre patina -
Born in Asago. Graduated in 1928, traditional wood carving. Graduated in 1933 from the sculpture department of the Tokyo School of Fine Arts. In 1931, as astudent, he was selected for the 12th Teiten (National Fine Arts) Exhibition.
1936, professor in Osaka. 1940 Osaka City Prize.
This statuette is representative of his pre-war style, with powerful forms and compact volumes, in the spirit of Art Deco.
mobilized s the years of wartime conscription, he turned to a deconstructed style, fusing human and plant forms, tending towards post-war abstraction.
Numerous international prizes - Awarded the Order of Culture by Emperor Akihito.
