Patinated Bronze Group - Deux Amours Se Disputant Un Cœur - Esprit Falconet - Mid-19th Century
Important bronze group with shaded brown patina representing two winged lovers in a particularly expressive allegorical scene featuring two cherubs disputing a heart.
This composition of high sculptural quality is in the tradition of gallant and sentimental models inspired by the creations of Falconet and the great 18th-century sculptors, several variants of which were reissued in the great Parisian bronze workshops in the 19th century.
The modelling of the faces, the exceptional finesse of the chasing of the wings and the remarkable quality of the casting bear witness to work of the highest standard.
The bronze has an uncommon density and heaviness, with particularly careful antique construction and elaborate interior mounting typical of fine 19th-century French castings.
Very beautiful deep brown antique patina with warm nuances admirably highlighting the volumes and the quality of the modeling.
A decorative sculpture of great presence, as elegant as it is spectacular.
