Café By Urbain Huchet

Artist: Urain Huchet

A very original oil on canvas measuring 21cm x 27cm plus a slightly damaged frame measuring 31cm x 37cm. The painting, partially painted in thick layers, depicts people seated at a café table. It is signed Huchet in the lower left corner and has an annotation on the spine.

Urbain Huchet, born in Rennes on April 28, 1930, and died in Boulogne-Billancourt on December 16, 2014, was a French painter and lithographer. He lived in Pont-Aven from 1960 to 1963 before settling in Boulogne-Billancourt. After studying law and working in the textile industry, Urbain Huchet decided in 1960, as a self-taught artist, to devote himself exclusively to painting.
He then lived for three years in Pont-Aven, painting landscapes, seascapes, animated scenes and portraits of typical characters in which his admiration for Paul Gauguin and Émile Bernard is expressed, before settling in the Paris region in 1963 and travelling to the Middle East and especially to America (Brazil, Peru, Mexico, Caribbean, Texas).
