Charming 1st Empire Period Flamed Mahogany Veneered Travel Powder Case With Drawer In The Belt.
Artist: Non Signée
A charming piece of furniture, this "curiosity" from the First Empire period is a small travel dressing table in veneer and solid flamed mahogany from Cuba in pretty shades of red. Composed of a front drawer without crosspiece and an oval lyre-shaped mirror fixed or removable from the top. The one-tone mercury mirror (aged over the years) pivots in its graceful lyre, forming a beautiful elongated oval with an inlaid frame decorated with a musical lyre motif on its fine bronze base. The generous drawer with oak inlay rests on an X-shaped base with a turned curved strut. This pretty decorative piece, which can also be used as a sofa end, is very stylish and unusual, easy to place and not without decorative and useful interest in the context of an assertive neo-classical decor. This piece of furniture is also stamped and varnished in its original condition.
