A Satsuma earthenware vase, dating from the late 19th century and richlythe exceptional craftsmanship of the Meiji era. This vase features remarkably fine gilded relief decoration, with carefully painted figurative scenes, traditional architecturetraditional architecture, trees in bloom and mountain landscapes renderedby brilliant enamels and rich gold accents.

The surface is adorned with elaborate Moriage-style relief decoration, lending remarkable depth and texture to the composition. Various figures dressed in traditional costumes appear in the landscapelandscape, surrounded by stylized foliage and symbolic motifs. The contrast between the deep black background, the bright green relief elements elements and the abundant gilding create a spectacular effect of greatdecorative richness.

One side of the vase appears to represent Amaterasu, the revered solar goddessof Shinto mythology, recognizable by the radiant halothat surrounds her. This type of mythological iconography was common in the finely decorated Satsuma earthenware produced during the Meiji era.

The vase is topped by a domed lid adorned with matching enamel and gilded motifs. Elegant upward-curving handles frame the body and emphasize its sculptural silhouette. The underside bears a hand-painted mark.

A highly decorative example of early Japanese Satsuma ceramics, ideal forfor traditional or eclectic interior design. Magnificent on its own or as part of a collection of Asian ceramics and works of art.
