Large Louis XV Rococo Silver Jardinière 800 Thousandths, Germany Late XIXᵉ Century

Large Louis XV Rococo style silver 800 thousandths jardinière, Germany late XIXᵉ century

Important German-made 800 thousandth silver jardinière dating from the late XIXᵉ century, created in a sumptuous Louis XV Rococo style.

The piece adopts a flowing form with asymmetrical contours entirely worked in repoussé and richly chased with powerful foliate scrolls, shells, fleurettes and rocaille motifs of great virtuosity.

The openwork body features large gridded reserves with floral decoration, bringing lightness and refinement to the ensemble. The side grips, particularly spectacular, develop large foliate scrolls ending in stylized fantasy heads in the pure rococo spirit.

The main facade is centered on an openwork mantel.

The main front is centered by a large monogrammed cartouche topped by a winged mascaron featuring an cherub's head, finely treated and perfectly integrated into the composition's exuberant decor.

The scalloped base features openwork rocaille decoration in perfect stylistic continuity with the main body. The formerly vermeiled interior retains traces of the original gilding, testifying to the quality of this prestigious piece of decorative goldsmithing.

This jardinière perfectly illustrates the exuberance of the composition.

This jardinière perfectly illustrates the craftsmanship of German workshops of the late XIXᵉ century, renowned for their brilliant reinterpretations of the great French models of the XVIIIᵉ century.
