Antique Double Bedspread Made Of San Leucio Silk Damask
A stunning bedspread, rich in color, made of silk damask with a woven floral and ornamental pattern, characteristic of the late Baroque decorative style and its late 19th-century reinterpretations. The design, punctuated by large symmetrical medallions and plant scrolls, reflects the opulent aesthetic inherited from the French tradition and reinterpreted in the Italian workshops of San Leucio, which specialized in the production of prestigious fabrics.
The piece is edged on three sides (the two long sides and the foot of the bed) by a magnificent fringe of antique trimmings approximately 12 cm wide, with a total length exceeding 7 meters, extraordinarily well-preserved and of exceptional quality.
CONDITION: excellent overall condition; when held up to the light, the fabric shows a few rare and tiny perforations, completely invisible when the fabric is laid flat. Antique fringe perfectly preserved.
