Michel Frechon is an atypical artist. A pupil of his father, the post-impressionist master Charles Frechon (1856-1929), in 1919 he presented four charcoals, his preferred mode of expression, at the Rouen Artists' Exhibition. He subsequently exhibited regularly at the Legrip gallery in Rouen. Frechon initially used a pointillist technique, before moving on to a more modern one. Here, he creates one of his typical views of mysterious architecture. François Lespinasse considers him the best draughtsman of the Rouen School.
