Cipriano Antonio Mannucci (1882-1970) was an Italian painter active in the late 19th and first half of the 20th centuries, renowned for his refined portraits, landscapes and genre scenes. Born into an Italian family on May 18, 1882 in Nice, then in France, he spent most of his artistic life in Florence, a city with which his career is closely linked. He trained at Florence's Scuola d'Arte di Santa Croce, where he acquired a solid academic education while remaining open to modern stylistic trends
Early in his career, Mannucci made a name for himself in Italian artistic circles, winning a prize in 1908 at an exhibition organized by the Società Fiorentina di Belle Arti. In search of broader horizons, he spent several formative years in Paris, where he exhibited at major institutions such as the Salon des Artistes Français and the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts. His immersion in the Parisian artistic milieu influenced his use of light and color, introducing elements reminiscent of Impressionism and, in some works, an elegant Art Nouveau sensibility.
From the 1910s onwards, Mannucci enjoyed growing international success. Around 1912, his work aroused interest in Great Britain, and in 1921 he held a highly acclaimed solo exhibition in London. This led to invitations to exhibit at the Royal Academy in London and Edinburgh, as well as commissions for portraits of members of British high society. In 1920, he received an award from the Società di Belle Arti di Firenze for his Autoritratto in nero, and a silver medal at the International Exhibition in Rio de Janeiro for the painting Pubertà. Throughout the 1930s and 1940s, he regularly took part in major Italian exhibitions, including several editions of the Venice Biennale.
Mannucci's work includes portraits, landscapes and intimate scenes of everyday life, as well as larger allegorical compositions. His painting is characterized by great technical finesse, a subtle mastery of light and a luminous yet controlled palette, bridging the gap between the traditions of the late 19th century and the modern sensibility of the early 20th century. His works have entered public collections - including museums and galleries in several Italian cities - and private collections across Europe.s.
