Still Life With Fruit - Oil On Canvas Signed Anton Mollis - 19th Century
Elegant 19th-century oil on canvas depicting a still life abundantly composed of fruit - apples, orange - arranged on an entablature alongside a glass of spirits and a knife, a croissant, in a typically Biedermeier setting. To the left of the composition is a bird in a cage. The composition, treated with precision and a fine search for materials, testifies to the Central European taste for refined, intimate still lifes.
The work bears a signature in the lower right: Anton Mollis.
Painting having been the subject of an antique rentoilage.
Please note: accidents and missing pictorial material in several places, visible in particular on the periphery and on certain areas of the background; restorations to be planned according to the future purchaser's level of requirement. Nevertheless, the whole remains highly decorative and retains all the quality of its composition.
Anton Mollis was an Austrian painter active in Vienna between around 1830 and 1850, principally known for his still lifes of flowers and fruit. He is listed in several specialized databases of 19th-century Austrian painting, as well as in literature devoted to Viennese artists. His works, often in small to medium format, are in the Biedermeier tradition, appreciated for its precise naturalism and sense of domestic intimacy.
