Second Portrait Of A Pair, 18th Century
Large, handsome portrait of Armand Duhail de Lalye, husband of Madame de Ségalis, whose portrait is also for sale. He came from a nobility of dress family in central France (Berry / Marche), which supplied royal officers and administrators. Surprisingly, the coat of arms painted on his portrait is that of his wife, a telling coat of arms with three rye panicles referring to the name "Ségalis". Our man is elegantly dressed in typical Regency style. He is shown in front of his desk, on which he has just picked up a sealed letter.
Painting in good general state of preservation, but with visible surface alterations (varnish). It would benefit from being cleaned and varnished. The 19th-century Regency-style wood and gilded stucco frame shows some missing spandrels.
Total dimensions: 110 X 94 cm, and 88 X 72 cm for the canvas.
