Jeanne Klein was a discreet but deeply sensitive figure in early 20th-century French painting. Born in Limoges in 1877, she trained early on at the city's École nationale des arts décoratifs, where she studied drawing and porcelain painting with masters such as Charles Bichet, whose influence would have a lasting impact on her outlook.
Both drawing teacher and painter, Jeanne Klein develops an intimate, luminous and delicately constructed body of work. Her landscapes, still lifes and everyday scenes reveal a sensitive approach to color and a constant search for harmony. Close to the post-impressionist aesthetic, her painting is distinguished by a free, vibrant, sometimes almost silent touch, where light always seems to filter through gently.
