Moroccan Nimcha Sword With Spanish Blade - Morocco, 18th Century
Moroccan Nimcha Sword With Spanish Blade - Morocco, 18th Century
Straight double-edged blade with wide central gutter on the first quarter.
Gutter inscription ""SAQUES SIN RASON - EMBAINES SIN HONOR"
The blade was shortened at its base, the entire motto was ""NO ME SAQUES SIN RASON - NO ME EMBAINES SIN HONOR".
The point of the blade was also reworked, as was the counter-edge, to make the blade slightly curved.
This model of Spanish blade is regularly found on the Spanish cavalry saber model 1728.
The fact that the blade has been reworked at the base and not just at the tipand not just at the tip (usually locally beveled on European on European import blades) leads me to believe that this might be abe a prize blade (perhaps from barbarian fighting) rather than a trade blade.rather than a trade blade.
Steel guard with three pitons and guard branch.
Bovine horn handle.
Leather-covered wooden scabbard with chased brass bolt.
Some damage to the scabbard leather.
