Georges Levy Old Painting Portrait Of Little Boy Sitting Red Shoe Workshop Child Reading
Portrait of a child reading in an armchair, Georges Levy studio, circa 1930-1950
Oil on canvas depicting a child seated in a red armchair, absorbed in reading or observing a sheet of paper resting on his lap. The scene has a lovely domestic sweetness: the child, slightly bent over, seems entirely caught up in his moment of concentration, in a calm, natural and touching attitude.
The composition is very well constructed (tight, slightly plunging framing) revolving around the armchair, whose curved lines envelop the figure. The blue background, the deep reds of the seat and shoes, the light tones of the clothing and the rosy complexions create a sensitive, luminous harmony. The painting favors the intimacy of gesture: a simple, silent moment, captured with great accuracy.
Very beautiful, intimate composition, carried by the gentle diagonal of the body and the interplay of complementary colors. The armchair structures the space, while the bowed head and hands focus all the attention. The whole exudes a delicate, lively and profoundly human presence. The work is in a French intimist vein, heir to the Nabis and post-impressionism, close to that interior painting where color, silence and everyday gesture become the true subjects of the painting.
Unsigned work, to be brought closer to Georges Lévy's studio, in the same spirit as the works previously presented with studio stamp (see our other listings)
