French School, Orpheus And Eurydice (1914)
French school
Orpheus and Eurydice
1914
Oil on board
24 x 33 cm
Monogrammed and dated: AC 7ème 1914
Lovely interpretation, dating from 1914, of Orpheus and Eurydice, the Greek myth handed down above all by the Roman writer Ovid. On the back of the board are two labels: "Fenoglio fils / Grenoble" and "Henri Roudet / Grenoble" - one probably supplied the carton, while the other supplied the frame (which has now disappeared). It therefore seems highly likely that "AC" was a Grenoble or Dauphiné artist.
