Artist: édouard Goerg

Édouard Goerg - Deux jeunes femmes émues, Paris 1948

Oil on canvas signed lower left "E. Goerg", dated 48, titled and located on the back "Deux jeunes femmes émues", Paris, November-December 1948.

An intimate, poetic composition depicting two nude young women gathered around a dazzling bouquet. A third figure appears in the background, like a dream presence, bringing a mysterious, delicate depth to the scene.

The work deploys a suspended atmosphere, between confidence, gentleness and inner dream. The large, dark gazes, rosy cheeks, pearly complexions and vegetal background envelop the figures in a hushed light. The central bouquet, vibrant with reds, yellows and greens, acts as the luminous heart of the painting.

The whole is part of Édouard Goerg's sensitive universe, where the female figure becomes an image of poetry, emotion and secrecy. The dense, nuanced pictorial material gives the scene a rare presence, at once sensual, silent and deeply inhabited.

Very fine, tight composition, built around the bouquet and the closeness of the two main figures. The palette blends deep greens, nocturnal blues, floral reds and iridescent flesh in gentle, expressive harmony. The canvas has great evocative power, with a daydream-like quality typical of the most intimate works. In keeping with family tradition, this is an unpublished work given directly by the painter to a Parisian painter friend whose collection we will be selling shortly.

Édouard Goerg, born in Sydney in 1893 and died in Callian in 1969, was a French painter, engraver and illustrator associated with poetic expressionism. Trained at the Académie Ranson, he exhibited at the Salon d'Automne, the Salon des Indépendants and several Parisian galleries. His work focuses on the human figure, the female nude, intimate scenes and symbolic compositions. He is also renowned for his illustrations and bibliophile books.
