Large Persian Kerman Table Rug, Early 20th Century
Large, square, hand-knotted wool table rug, probably from Kerman (Persia), early 20th century.
This type of piece, square in format, was intended for decorative use, notably as table or piano tops.
The decoration features a large, radiating central medallion, surrounded by a rich network of foliage, palmettes and flowering vases. The whole is embellished with reserves adorned with stylized birds, in the taste of the so-called "vase" carpets, characteristic of Kerman's productions intended for export in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The main border, on an ivory background, is composed of floral cartouches and framed by decorative guards.
Beautiful palette of deep blues, ivory and pinkish highlights, well preserved.
Overall good condition, with wear from use. Bangs and ends showing signs of age.
