Saint Estienne By Jacques II Laudin (circa 1663-1729), Large Limoges Enamel Plaque
Rectangular plate in polychrome painted enamel on copper, with central oval decoration depicting Saint Étienne in mid-body bust, nimbed, raising his right hand in a gesture of blessing. He wears the white dalmatic of a deacon and a stole adorned with gold motifs. Landscape background in gray monochrome.
Framework with black background richly adorned with rinceaux in white and gold. Inscription in reserve in the lower part: S. ESTIENNE.
On the reverse, inscription Laudin aux fauxbourgs de Manigne à Limoges signed IL for Jacques Laudin II.
An old collector's label indicating to have been offered in 1741.
We are in the presence of a very beautiful and rare painted enamel plate from Limoges in good home condition.
Two small mounting holes.
This enamel is screwed onto a plate covered with fabric and encrusted with gilded wood.
