Allégorie De l'été - Pierre-jacques Cazès (1676 – 1754)
Oil on canvas depicting Flora, or the Allegory of Summer – French School, 18th century – Follower of Pierre-Jacques Cazès (1676 – 1754)
The work is presented in its beautiful giltwood frame, richly carved with flowers, shells, and vegetal friezes.
The composition is characterized by movement, where gazes meet or avert with modesty. The heaviness of the drapery contrasts with the lightness of the delicate poses of the hands, the flight of a foot, a putto with butterfly wings... Our painting is by the same hand as two similar paintings that came up for auction in 2004 and 2013 and were attributed to Pierre Jacques Cazès (see attached photos).
