19th Century Bentwood Beech Coat & Hat Stand Labelled Fischel
An Elaborate Late 19th-Century Turned Beech & Bentwood Hat and Coat Stand by Fischel
A rare and striking late 19th-century bentwood hall stand by Fischel, dating to circa 1890. This impressive piece showcases the elegance and ingenuity of classic bentwood design and is labelled with the original Fischel paper label to the underside.
The upper crown, of generous 74cm diameter, features six large S-shaped double hooks, providing ample hanging space for hats, coats and scarves. These are arranged around a beautifully turned central finial. Below, a finely turned walnut column incorporates additional scarf hooks, adding both function and visual interest.
The lower section is equally well considered, with a four legged base united by a circular hoop stretcher designed to accommodate walking sticks and umbrellas. This integrated stick and umbrella stand combines practicality with refined late 19th-century styling.
In very good original condition throughout, the stand is structurally sound and visually striking. The untouched colour and patina of the beech and bentwood, together with its elegant proportions and detailed turnings, make this hall stand a true statement piece for any hallway or interior that values fine 19th-century craftsmanship and timeless style.
