Senior Artillery Officer’s Cap – Us Army – Circa 1935–1942.

Full-dress service cap for a senior officer in the Artillery – US Army – circa 1935–1942.
The fine detail of the eagle—the intricately defined plumage and the precise cut of the circular "glory" (halo) above—along with its period-correct mercury or electroplated gilding, are entirely characteristic of items produced between 1935 and 1942.
Red Artillery piping: The band of bright red felt or silk, set amidst the gold embroidery, definitively identifies the officer as belonging to the Artillery (either Field Artillery or Coast Artillery, the latter being highly active in San Francisco during this period).
Senior Officer rank: Unlike the standard "Olive Drab" service cap, the black full-dress cap featured this type of colored branch-of-service band. The gold braided pattern on the band, combined with the oak-leaf motifs on the visor, confirms the rank of Colonel or Lieutenant Colonel.
The maker: Pieces belonging to specific individuals or crafted by prominent tailors—such as B. Pasquale Co.—are highly sought after by collectors, as they signify high-quality, bespoke tailoring, distinct from mass-produced items.
This is, therefore, an authentic and rare full-dress cap belonging to a senior US Army Artillery officer, custom-made by a renowned tailor in San Francisco.
Overall condition: Excellent aesthetic condition on the exterior. Fabric & Gilding: The gold-thread embroidery and the metallic bullion (cannetille) on the visor remain in excellent, fresh condition, possessing a beautiful, luminous patina. There are no visible moth holes in the black wool fabric. The red piping remains vibrant and unfaded. Interior: The leather sweatband shows signs of wear, including cracking and a clean break at one of the joining points (see photos)—evidence of the item's age and authenticity. The original size labels (a woven tag and an affixed paper emblem) are perfectly preserved.
Size: 57 cm.
