Artist: Antonin Daum
Daum NANCYPair of "Thistle" vases, circa 1895-1905
Multilayered, acid-etched, enameled and gold-embellished blown glass
Solid chased silver mounts, Minerve head hallmark (silver 950/1000)Signed "Daum Nancy" under the base (signature slightly faded, visible on photos)
Height: 13.5 cm each
Description
Superb pair of small Art Nouveau soliflor vases from the Daum Nancy manufacture, emblematic of the Nancy School.
Each vase features a naturalistic décor of Lorraine thistles: prickly stems, toothed leaves and flowers in relief, etched with acid on a shimmering iridescent background in shades of gold, amber, purple and green.
The flared base rests on an elegant, finely chased solid silver mounting (Minerve head hallmark visible), typical of the finest productions of the period.
These pieces wonderfully capture the spirit of Art Nouveau: precise observation of nature, virtuoso technique and subtle play of light on iridescent glass.
Perfectly matched, they form a rare and harmonious ensemble, all the more sought-after with solid silver frames.
ConditionGood overall condition. No cracks, chips or restorations. The gilding on the neck and the signature under the base are slightly worn (which is common and authentic for pieces from this period - see detailed photos).
The solid silver mounts show a beautiful period patina, with no bumps or deformation.
Provenance : Private collection.
Great example of Daum production from 1895-1905, with hallmarked solid silver mounts, ideal for an Art Nouveau showcase or a lover of Ecole de Nancy glass.
