Mother-of-pearl And Bone Marquetry Syrian Box - XIXᵉ Century
Syrian rectangular wooden chest entirely covered with rich mother-of-pearl and bone marquetry. The finely geometric and floral decoration is organized in stylized reserves on the lid, sides and corner jambs, in the tradition of Levantine workshops of the XIXᵉ century.
The flat lid features a radiating composition of star motifs, while the side faces are adorned with stylized floral scrolls. The whole rests on a cut-out base forming an openwork stand. The workmanship bears witness to the craftsmanship characteristic of Syrian production in Damascus.
Epoque XIXᵉ century.
Presence of marquetry chips and visible wear, consistent with age. Nice overall patina.
