Japanese Lacquered Box And Tray Tsuba - Japan
Lacquered wood box and tray decorated with 3 tsubas (katana sword guards) in gold and silver makie lacquer.
Each tsuba features a different motif: sakura (cherry blossom) petals, chidori sparrows and waves, pine trees and Mount Fuji.
The background lacquer is worked in trompe-l'oeil to resemble ironwork, in connection with the tsubas.
Under the lid the signature and title of the piece.
The edges of the box and tray are in silver lacquer.
