Antique Multigem Butterfly Brooch In 18 Karat Gold And Silver, Sapphire, Emerald, Diamond, Ruby
Antique multigem butterfly brooch in 18 karat gold and silver. Antique brooch depicting a butterfly with outstretched wings. The central body is adorned with an alignment of rubies (natural and synthetic), flanked by two cushion-cut emeralds on the lower wings. The butterfly's head is adorned with smaller rubies for the eyes and antennae, as well as two sapphires set on the upper wings. The whole is mounted on a meticulously crafted silver and gold setting, adorned with rose-cut diamonds. The butterfly's body is also set with a 0.30 ct old-cut central diamond. The butterfly holds a diamond-set lobster clasp which was probably used to attach a watch. The pin system on the reverse unscrews. Antique brooch, circa 1880, France.
