Large unidentified princely livery suit dating from the early 18th century. Scarlet woolen cloth applied with chased velvet ribbons featuring cross-crowned coats of arms. Fitted frock coat with high collar, long angled sleeves, slit at back. Suit fastened in front with period brass hooks. Cut and chiseled velvet appliqué ribbons and colored silk bangs. The original ecru linen lining features several reused theatrical ink stamps, including that of Gaston Courtois, famous Restoration costume designer for the Comédie Française. This costume comes from the historic costume collection of Atelier Karinska, the famous costume designer for the Ballets Russes. Several works by Gaston Courtois are in the Musée Gallièra, Paris. Very slight period patina and minor wear restorations, which do not affect the stability of this structurally unmodified costume.

Dimensions: suit height 107 cm, shoulders 41 cm, sleeves 66 cm, chest 101 cm, waist 97 cm, hips 107 cm.
