Through the nuance of his colors, he succeeds in translating the subtle light of the Seine Valley and "captures on canvas the fleeting atmosphere that separates planes and makes tones vibrate." (André Ruellan, art critic). His many pupils ensured continuity at the Ecole de Rouen.
