Biedermeier Table Clock, Vienna, Circa 1830.
Biedermeier table clock, Vienna, circa 1830. The architectural structure, inspired by a classical temple, is embellished with alabaster columns and rich, finely chiseled gilded bronze friezes. The veneered wooden case houses a circular dial with Roman numerals, protected by glass, which offers a glimpse of the exposed mechanical movement.
The top is crowned by an imperial eagle with outstretched wings, while elegant winged figures and neoclassical plant motifs appear on either side of the dial. On the front, between the columns, a gilded sun mask stands out, lending further solemnity to the ensemble.
An example of high-end Viennese clockmaking from the Biedermeier era, this clock combines formal rigor with rich decoration, making it a highly appealing piece for collectors and lovers of period furniture.
