Lamp base of slender truncated cone shape, resting on a circular base rising to a constricted neck extended by a later electric mount. The sober, vertical silhouette is characteristic of the forms developed by the artist in the 1950s-1960s.
The surface is entirely animated by a point-engraved decoration, representing a stylized figure with deliberately simplified features, inscribed in a narrative register.
The characters, with their pronounced profile and schematized limbs, are part of an immediately recognizable iconographic universe, where human figures and decorative motifs cohabit in a free, poetic composition.
The decoration is treated by incision in the slip, revealing the dark line on a background with shaded tones of green, beige and gray. The upper part features a freer treatment, punctuated by gestural traces and abstract motifs, creating a transition between figuration and abstraction.
Jacques BLIN established himself as one of the major figures of post-war French ceramics. From the early 1950s, he developed a singular plastic language based on engraved drawing, often compared to graphic writing, in which narrative and gesture occupy a central place.
This lamp testifies to a desire to integrate the object into the domestic space while retaining a strong artistic dimension.
The treatment of the decoration, both spontaneous and structured, places this work among the artist's most sought-after production, particularly for his figurative pieces of the 1950s-1960s.
