Devotional setcomprising an architectural reliquary and associated reliquary element, in carved, gilded and polychrome wood.
Italian work, probably Neapolitan, 18th century.
Description
The main body adopts the form of a small Baroque aedicule with foliate and foliate decoration, centered by a glazed cavity revealing a red background bearing an early, partially legible handwritten inscription evoking a "chapel retreat" and an abbot, suggesting a monastic or oratorian provenance.
The second element, with its curved shape, features a sealed logette containing a relic accompanied by a titulus bearing the inscription "de Sale", most likely in reference to Saint François de Sales.
Presence of an old wax seal on the reverse (altered), testifying to an original closure.
Condition
Ancient polychromy predominantly gold and red, with wear and tear consistent with age, with no visible heavy restoration.
In accordance with canon law (can. 1190 §1), this sale concerns only the reliquary as an object of sacred art. The relics it contains are not the object of the transaction, but are included free of charge for their historical and cultural value.
