Finely carved canoe prow, collected in the Iatmul area in Papua New Guinea. Today, the pirogue remains the most common means of locomotion in the Sepik river valley. Most of the pirogues used in the Lower and Middle Sepik regions have a carved prow representing a crocodile, a feared and revered animal. Wood with traces of use.
