Jean Lurçat Glazed Ceramic Tile Sant Vicens Red Rooster Black Design
Old glazed ceramic tile, red and black decoration, based on a design by Jean Lurçat for the Sant Vicens workshop, depicting a stylized rooster.
This piece features a highly graphic and immediately recognizable decoration, in the spirit of the bestiary dear to Jean Lurçat. The contrast of red and black, the simplification of forms and the vigor of the line give the whole a very strong decorative presence, typical of the creations made as part of his collaboration with Sant Vicens, in Perpignan. Indeed, sources from the workshop indicate that Lurçat developed an important ceramic production there, often two-tone, around an animal and symbolic universe.
The tile measures 20 x 20 cm. It is in good overall condition, with very minor traces of use to report, without detracting from its beautiful decorative effect. An interesting piece for lovers of Sant Vicens ceramics, Jean Lurçat, or more broadly 20th-century artist ceramics. Markings on reverse: inscription "Dessin Jean Lurçat Sant Vicens"
