DALON Marius (XIX-XXe)
"Vue du Suquet et des îles de Lérins à Cannes"
Oil on canvas,
Signed lower left,
Beautiful work by Cannes painter Marius DALON depicting a view of Mont Chevalier with the church of Le Suquet in Cannes and the islands of Lérins in the background, taken from the Croix des Gardes.
A student of painters Léon Bonnat and Allbert Maignan at the Ecole des Beaux-arts de Paris, Marius Dalon mainly depicted floral compositions "very warm in color" and landscapes of Cannes: "Rue à Cannes" and "Pins de la Roubine".
From 1892 to 1902, he was appointed curatorial advisor to Philippe Pinatel at the Musée des Beaux-arts de la ville de Cannes.
Attached to his native town, he took an active part in exhibitions by Cannes artists and in local life as a Member of the Comité des fêtes de la Ville de Cannes.
American painter Edward B Fuld benefited from the painter's enlightened advice during his stay in France in 1895.
Nb: Old restorations are to be noted, without incidence for the reading of the work. Dimensions: 66 x 58 cm unframed and 91.5 x 83 cm with its beautiful original carved and gilded wood frame. The frame is subject to a few unobtrusive accidents and missing parts.
